This last tuesday, in San Marino, the sun and the stars came out for Rodarte’s Fall 2019 collection.
The icons of Hollywood musicals from the ’30s through the ’70s were the Mulleavys’ starting point for a collection that moved between massive shoulders, palazzo pants, floor-sweeping gowns and darling frocks of fragile lace or tulle embroidered with hearts and butterflies. A trio of sleeveless tulle evening dresses covered in black, yellow, and red hearts were especially charming.
This was not a subtle show: the makeup was saturated and glittery; the floral headdresses were made of anthuriums; the shoes were vertiginous, vinyl, made of clear plastic. There were logo’d door-knocker earrings that mashed up K, L, and a heart.
In every sense, this was a very Hollywood show. Here are all the looks:
